So This Is What Feingold Really Thinks About His Constituents…
[Oshkosh, WI] During a recent interview with the New York Times, Senator Feingold berated and dismissed concerned Wisconsin citizens who attend his town hall tours, saying “I had people showing up at my town meeting with hats on, with tea bags coming out.”
“It’s no surprise that a career politician like Russ Feingold has grown out of touch with his constituents, but it is appalling that he would so openly mock them in front of a national audience,” Sara Sendek, Ron Johnson for Senate campaign spokeswoman said. “When citizens went to Senator Feingold with their concerns over the massive spending in Washington, he easily dismissed them and now criticizes them in the media. Wisconsin is still facing high unemployment and a poor economy and Senator Feingold still will not acknowledge voters’ concerns. This November, voters will have a chance to show Senator Feingold the same courtesy and dismiss him.”

I have to give Russ Feingold a good mark for having listening sessions that are announced before they happen. He even came to Ashland County, and listened. I spoke, and he listened and would like to do better. I did not see any of the tea bags here. I think he is a good representive of his party, but think his party is on the wrong track. He is not in agreement with his party at all time either. Regardless, it is time for change and term limits at most levels. I wonder if others wanting his post will visit Northern Wisconsin before and after the election. I like the guy, but not his politics.
The same happen to me. It just proves how out of touch Washington is and it is NECESSARY FOR THE POWER TO RETURN TO THE PEOPLE AND THE STATES AND AWAY FROM WASHINGTON. WE CAN FIX OUR OWN PROBLEMS LOCALLY IF WASHINGTON STAYS OUT!!
THE ONLY ROLE OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE DEFENSE. EDUCATION AND WELFARE MUST RETURN TO EACH STATE, CLOSER TO THE PEOPLE SO AS TO BE MORE RESPONSIVE TO THOSE IT SERVES.
Same thing happened to me. I requested his position on the import/export bank and on immigration, neither of which received a response, not even a canned position paper.
As for someone else’s comment about how nice it is that Feingold visits every county every year, it’s it interesting that almost all of those listening sessions were done in January-April this year? Now he doesn’t have to face an angy electorate.
I’ve written Feingold a few times to express my displeasure with his position on a number of issues that were coming up for a vote. Everytime I got a very nice letter back thanking me for my support, and yes, he’s glad I agreed with him… I think that pretty much says it all about Russ. I’m not sure whose letters he read but they certainly weren’t mine.
Brendan (and everyone else): I have also written Feingold several times to express my position on issues, often in opposition to those he has taken and I too received very politely written letters (I think two of them were exactly the same though the issues were not similar). In one case, I believe the letter was actually written to me, but instead of thanking me for my input and promising to add my views to those of the rest of his constituents whom he represents, he cordially informed me of my ignorance of the issue and basically told me that he knew better than the people he represents and was going to vote however he wanted. This issue happened to be the government health care program. It seems strange that my government representative would tell a health care worker (which I am) that I don’t know what I’m talking about.
Ron, I hope you oust Russ in November so we can actually have a representative represent us at meetings of our representative government.
He can’t even make up an original reply. He’s just like Herb Kohl. Same standard form letter reply. Both of them need to be replaced.
out of touch politicians I hope they get voted out
we need to send a clear message….listen to your constituent….represent their desires and goals…not yours or your party but the people you are supposed to represent
I too have tried contacting Feingold and Kohl to complain about issues…standard “thanks for supporting me” responses. Not listening? No, I think its not caring!
Heck with writing a letter. When I went out for the 9/12/09 march on Washington, DC I called ahead, spoke with Feingold’s office staff and set up a meeting with Feingold to discuss my concerns about the Health Care Bill, by specfic page number.
As far as they knew I flew out to meet with HIM. Well, I get there and they tell me that he was in Wisconsin. They did let me meet with one of his office staff, since I came such a distance, at the time I was supposed to meet him.
They clearly understood I wanted to talk to Feingold himself not a staffer since they did not have a 1PM appointment for me with any staffer in Washington DC on 9/11/09.
So, I spoke with a young woman staffer and tried to talk about specific things in the bill, with page numbers. She said she didn’t know if I was telling her the truth because she didn’t have a copy of the bill handy and hadn’t memorized it by page number. (She did not exactly put it that way.) Then she dismissed me, after 7.5 minutes, by saying the bill was being changed anyway and she was sure my concerns would be addressed. I left her the document I brought with me and she promised to get back to me on the 20 or so specfic items. She sent an even more vague email several weeks later.
It takes Washington DC to create a supposed ‘service’ business that can be so ignorantly dissmissive of those they are paid to serve.
Oh, and I too have received thank you for your support letters after very non supportive statements and letters to him. What an idiot.
You built some beneficial details there. I did a look for within the matter and observed most folks will consent with your webpage.
