WISCONSIN GROCERS ENDORSE RON JOHNSON FOR US SENATE

September 7, 2010–The Wisconsin Grocers Association (WGA) Board of Directors voted to endorse Ron Johnson for U.S. Senate at their most recent board meeting in Milwaukee.

“The WGA Board is a good representation of the retail food industry and contains representatives of warehouses, distributors/suppliers, chain store operators, single store owners and the manufacturing industry,” said Board Chairman Brad Brooks from Affiliated Foods Midwest. “While discussing the race for Senator from the different perspectives, the Board agreed that Ron Johnson was the right choice for the grocery industry in Wisconsin, the best candidate to lead Wisconsin and represent all of our mutual interests.”

WGA Board Member Dave Kotwitz said, “In meeting with Ron Johnson I found him to be very genuine in his commitment to better government. Much of what he said or proposed was very common sense.”

“Grocers are the backbone of Wisconsin communities, and they have a good read on the needs of the citizens in their area,” Johnson said. “I’m pleased to accept the endorsement of the grocers as an indication that in communities across the state, citizens and small business owners are seeking a new direction and more accountability from their elected officials.”

“Employers in Wisconsin need someone in the US Senate who knows what it takes to run a business, meet payroll and deal with the mountains of federal red tape and regulatory compliance businesses are challenged with everyday,” said Brandon Scholz, President and CEO of the WGA. “We really need a new way of thinking when it comes to turning our economy around – it’s time for a change and a little common sense.”

Feingold’s Flip-Flop

Posted September 7, 2010

Oshkosh, WI… In Milwaukee yesterday, President Obama announced a new $50 billion stimulus project to be implemented over the next six years.  Despite skipping the President’s appearance in Milwaukee, Senator Feingold refused to reject President Obama’s new spending bill earlier in the day.  But earlier this year, Senator Feingold adamantly spoke against the idea of a second stimulus.  With the election weeks away, voters deserve to know where Senator Feingold stands – is he going to stand against more spending and focus on creating jobs, or will he stand with the President and continue on a reckless spending binge?

“Senator Feingold has been talking out of both sides of his mouth,” Sara Sendek, Ron Johnson for Senate Campaign Spokeswoman said.  “Though he originally said he would not back any additional stimulus projects, Senator Feingold remains open to President Obama’s newest major spending proposal.  Senator Feingold is out of touch and will continue to spend us further and further in debt instead of focusing on real solutions to create jobs.  Wisconsin needs a Senator with experience creating jobs and growing business – not another career politician like Senator Feingold.”

“Having said that, people say, ‘What’s the second stimulus package going to be like? What’s the third one going to be like?’ My answer to that is, ‘Don’t come to me for a vote.’ The idea behind the stimulus package was that it was an emergency and we needed to prime the pump. If you keep doing that, you become the pump.” (“Burning Questions: Senator Feingold discusses spending, jobs, and more,” Appleton [WI] Post-Crescent, June 3, 2010)

Feingold Won’t Withhold Support for the Second $50 Billion “Stimulus” Proposed on Labor Day by President Obama. “Feingold said Monday prior to the Labor Day parade in Milwaukee that he believes the president is building the structure for an economic recovery with the stimulus plan that already passed and a new $50 billion spending proposal Obama unveiled Monday.”  (“Feingold says Obama building structure of recovery,” Associated Press, September 6, 2010)
