Feingold Funds Field Trip to Study Dino Eggs in China

[Oshkosh, WI] In 2009, Russ Feingold voted for a stimulus bill he said would create jobs and pontificated that the funds should be spent wisely. But since that time Wisconsin has lost 82,000 jobs, Feingold is defending his vote, and a new report details 100 egregious examples of unwise stimulus spending.

Nine students from Montana State University were given a six-week, all-expense paid trip to China funded through stimulus dollars funneled through the National Science Foundation. The students were to study dinosaur eggs and other fossils, and reassured taxpayers their $141,002 was hard at work…when the students weren’t busy sightseeing. One blogger wrote “Believe it or not from previous blog posts, we have been hard at work doing research.”

After both saying stimulus dollars should be spent wisely and subsequently defending his vote, it looks like Russ Feingold approves of projects that are a total waste of taxpayer resources while failing to provide real solutions to Wisconsin’s economic crisis.

“Nine students from Montana won a trip to study in China, while Wisconsin taxpayers lost out,” said Juston Johnson, Campaign Manager for Ron Johnson for Senate. “$141,002 to send students across the world was money Wisconsin taxpayers could have been using to bolster our own economy instead.”

The Johnson Campaign will be highlighting wasteful stimulus spending projects Russ Feingold believes are getting the job done for Wisconsin families until Election Day.
