Primates Receive Stimulus Funds

[Oshkosh, WI] In 2009, Russ Feingold voted for a stimulus bill he said would create jobs and pontificated that the funds should be spent wisely. But since that time Wisconsin has lost more than 78,000 jobs, Feingold is defending his vote, and a new report details 100 egregious examples of unwise stimulus spending.

Have you ever wondered why monkeys respond negatively to inequity and unfairness?  Researchers at Georgia State University have received nearly $700,000 in stimulus funds just to answer that question.  The money will be put towards studying seven different species of primates in order to clarify “how decision-making is affected by unequal outcomes.”

Researchers in Georgia may now have a chance to study social patterns of primates, but people in Wisconsin continue to face a poor economy and continued job loss.

“Maybe Senator Feingold thinks we should be spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to study the social patterns of monkeys and chimpanzees, but the people of Wisconsin are far more concerned about the economy and job creation,” said Juston Johnson, Campaign Manager for Ron Johnson for Senate.   “While Senator Feingold is wasting Wisconsin tax dollars and spending us into debt, Wisconsin voters are looking for a candidate to offer real solutions for our economy.”

The Johnson Campaign will be highlighting wasteful stimulus spending projects Russ Feingold believes are getting the job done for Wisconsin families until Election Day.

Where Are Feingold’s Lobbyist Pals?

[Oshkosh, WI] Senator Russ Feingold released a new ad today titled “Look Out for Us,” using largely the same cast as his previous as “On Our Side.”  A closer look at the ad however shows that a controversial figure in his previous ad was not included this time around – registered AFL-CIO lobbyist Joanne Ricca.

When previously asked about having a lobbyist appear in his ad to declare that Senator Feingold was on their side of the issues, Feingold defended such actions as “perfectly appropriate.”  After acknowledging that he was in fact standing on the side of special interests and lobbyists, it appears Senator Feingold has had a change of heart about flaunting that fact to the people of Wisconsin.

“Two weeks ago, Senator Feingold was proud to finally admit to the people of Wisconsin that he was on the side of special interest groups and union lobbyists,” Sara Sendek, spokeswoman for Ron Johnson for Senate said.  “After promising voters that he would reform the culture of lobbying in Washington, instead Senator Feingold embraced lobbyists and declared himself to be on their side.  Maybe this new and stunning admission did not go over with voters as he’d hoped, and Feingold will once again revert to his old tricks and false promises.”

Ricca, a long-time lobbyist, currently serves as the legislative representative and research director for the AFL-CIO in Milwaukee.

But since that time Wisconsin has lost more than 78,000 jobs, Feingold is defending his vote, and a new report details 100 egregious examples of unwise stimulus spending.

Senator Feingold’s stimulus bill has provided nearly $200,000 a San Francisco non-profit organization, called Pacific Environment, to help indigenous Siberian communities become grassroots lobbyists.  The experimental applied science project assists indigenous Siberian communities in engaging Russian policymakers in local civic and environmental issues, in what Pacific environment labels “high-risk, high return.”

These stimulus funds that were promised by Senator Feingold to help spur job creation have instead been used towards an experimental lobbying project.

“It’s bad enough that Senator Feingold uses lobbyists in his own campaign ads, but now he is using stimulus funds to help teach Siberian communities to become lobbyists as well,” said Juston Johnson, Campaign Manager for Ron Johnson for Senate.   “Senator Feingold is out of touch with workers and families in Wisconsin, who need job creation, not wasteful spending.”

The Only Show In Town

[Oshkosh, WI] During a recent visit to Superior, Wisconsin, Senator Feingold defended his vote for the Democrats’ stimulus bill, saying “there was no other show in town.”  This trillion dollar legislation spent us further into debt and has failed to create jobs as originally promised.  In fact, since the stimulus was signed into law, Wisconsin has lost more than 78,000 jobs.

“Senator Feingold’s credibility of having a so-called independent record is further damaged by his admission that he voted for the failed stimulus because there ‘was no other show in town,’” Sara Sendek, Ron Johnson for Senate campaign spokeswoman said.   “Senator Feingold’s only solution to massive job loss and a faltering economy has been to continue to spend our nation into unsustainable debt.  But this November Senator Feingold will not be the only show in town.  Wisconsin voters will have a choice between a career politician who only knows how to waste taxpayer money, or the candidate with a proven record of job creation who will work to find real solutions to our economic problems from day one.”

Feingold’s Stimulus Funds Museum Exhibits

[Oshkosh, WI] In 2009, Russ Feingold voted for a stimulus bill he said would create jobs and pontificated that the funds should be spent wisely. But since that time Wisconsin has lost more than 78,000 jobs, Feingold is defending his vote, and a new report details 100 egregious examples of unwise stimulus spending.

The Army Corps of Engineers spent $430,695 of stimulus funds to hire a graphics design firm to design and build interpretive exhibits showing the history of the Mississippi River at the National Great Rivers Museum in St. Louis.  The exhibits are also used to “enhance the public’s understanding of the Corps’ mission for water resource development.”

Instead of creating jobs in Wisconsin, these stimulus funds were used for lucrative contracts to create museum exhibits and help enhance the image of the Army Corps of Engineers.

“Spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on new exhibits in a museum isn’t exactly what I would categorize as a jump-start to the economy,” said Juston Johnson, Campaign Manager for Ron Johnson for Senate.   “While Senator Feingold is authorizing taxpayer funds for new exhibits in Missouri, Wisconsin continues to see job loss and a poor economy.”
