Keeping Promise to Seniors Means Preserving Medicare and Social Security

Posted July 30, 2010

Green Bay, WI…Oshkosh manufacturer and U.S. Senate Candidate Ron Johnson said today preserving Medicare and Social Security and keeping the programs sustainable long-term are important steps in keeping America’s promise to our seniors. At forum on Aging and Long Term Care in Green Bay today, Johnson will emphasize first and foremost that Medicare and Social Security must preserve benefits for current retirees and those approaching retirement.

“Our seniors deserve the peace of mind and certainty that the programs they’ve been planning their retirement around will remain intact and be the safety net they’re meant to be,” Johnson said. “Upcoming generations of Americans deserve a safety net, too, and that’s why I’m committed to keeping these programs solvent and making reforms necessary to do so after first securing benefits for current retirees and those approaching retirement.”

Johnson said ObamaCare represented a broken promise to seniors as it makes cuts to Medicare that will impact 100,000 Wisconsin seniors utilizing the Medicare Advantage program. ObamaCare makes $523 billion in Medicare cuts while increasing taxes by $569 billion. Johnson said by repealing ObamaCare, the Medicare cuts would be eliminated and Congress could start fresh on real reforms to bring down the cost of health care and make Medicare solvent in order to fix problems like the “donut hole.”

“Common-sense, step-by-step reforms are needed to bring down costs, make health care accessible and affordable, and keep Medicare and Social Security solvent for future generations,” Johnson said. “I’m committed to going to Washington to fix the problems with our broken system and ensuring our seniors are cared for. This is no time to play politics with promises to our seniors, that’s why I’m serious about making reforms.”

FreedomWorks PAC Endorses “Champion of Freedom” Ron Johnson

Posted July 29, 2010

From FreedomWorks PAC:

“Today, fiscal conservative and “Champion of Freedom” Ron Johnson joins an impressive list of candidates endorsed by FreedomWorks PAC as part of the Take America Back in 2010 campaign. Johnson is a hard worker and a respected community leader running for Senate in Wisconsin. He earned the “Champion of Freedom” endorsement from FreedomWorks PAC for his leadership in the advancement of a common-sense, limited government agenda.

Johnson is both a Certified Public Accountant, and the creator of hundreds of manufacturing jobs. Given the current record-breaking levels of both the unemployment rate and the federal deficit, these are two skill sets desperately needed in the Senate.

An advocate of the free market, Johnson understands that the road to job creation and economic growth in Wisconsin will be paved with lower taxes and more individual freedom. For this reason, he promises to fight excessive taxes on the small businesses and homes of Wisconsin families.”

Actually Senator, ObamaCare Does Cut Medicare

Posted July 28, 2010

According to Senator Russ Feingold in an interview to the Hudson Star-Observer there were no cuts in Medicare and to say otherwise is a lie.

“Feingold called Republican assertions that the health care act cut Medicare “an absolute fraud.”
“It did not cut Medicare benefits,” he said.

Actually, Senator, it did.

By about $500 Billion according to this January 2010 letter from the Congressional Budget Office. ObamaCare also cut $200 billion from Medicare Advantage, according to this article in the Wall Street Journal. 100,000 Wisconsinites will lose Medicare Advantage coverage because of the bill.

Posted July 28, 2010

[Oshkosh, WI] Senator Russ Feingold said Barack Obama is the first president in 70 years to “get the job done” while defending his stimulus and health care votes. The 18-year incumbent and former self-proclaimed deficit hawk also said the trillion-dollar bills are something to be proud of.

In “Feingold defends his record,” the Hudson Star Observer quoted Feingold as saying, “You can win this argument. You just can’t be afraid.
