Statement on Labor Department Report

Posted June 12, 2010

[Oshkosh, WI…] Oshkosh manufacturer and United States Senate candidate Ron Johnson today said a new jobs report released by the US Department of Labor is more confirmation that the $862 billion so-called stimulus bill did not work.

The Labor Department’s report released Friday showed an increase of 431,000 jobs – owed almost entirely to the federal government’s hiring of temporary census workers.  In contrast, private sector jobs grew by just 41,000, and the month of May contained the slowest pace of job growth since January.

Johnson said removing capital from the private sector and transferring those dollars to the federal government to pick winners and losers is a losing proposition for taxpayers and families struggling to find jobs.

“This report is more evidence that Washington politicians simply have their heads buried in the sand when it comes to job creation.  Running up our federal debt and blowing hundreds of billions of dollars on more government programs is not how to stimulate America’s economy,” said Johnson.  “We need new leaders in Washington that will have the courage to cut spending and taxes, and provide incentives for Main Street to grow and prosper.”

Statement on GOPAC Poll

Posted June 12, 2010

[Oshkosh, WI…] Oshkosh manufacturer and United States Senate candidate Ron Johnson today said a new poll released by GOPAC demonstrates the voters of Wisconsin are ready for change after 18 years of Russ Feingold’s failure to lead.

Johnson said the poll reflects the desire among Wisconsin for a new, fresh perspective in contrast to the career politicians more concerned about their re-election than fixing the mess they created in Washington.  The poll results revealed Feingold’s vulnerability with “new person” garnering 49 percent of the vote, and Feingold’s re-elect at just 45 percent.

“Voters have grown tired of politicians that have virtually no experience working in the private sector, no experience creating jobs, and no understanding of what it takes to deal with the rules, regulations, and taxes that they impose on the rest of us,” said Johnson.  “Russ Feingold voted to spend billions of dollars we simply don’t have to create jobs.  It didn’t work, and now our children and grandchildren are saddled with this irresponsible debt.  I will go to Washington to do everything I can to help fix the mess these politicians have created.”

Statement on Wall Exiting and Rasmussen Poll

Posted June 12, 2010

[Oshkosh, WI…] Oshkosh manufacturer and United States Senate candidate Ron Johnson today said Terrance Wall’s bid for US Senate should be commended for focusing attention on Russ Feingold’s record of failed leadership and for helping energize the Republican Party.

“Terrance has fought the good fight, and I wish him and his family the very best,” said Johnson.  “His strong campaign across the state helped focus more attention on the critical need to create jobs and bring fiscal sanity to Washington, and he should be commended for it.”

A new poll conducted on May 25 concludes the race between Johnson and Feingold is statistically dead even.  The Rasmussen Reports poll of likely voters shows Feingold at 46 percent and Johnson at 44 percent, and 6 percent undecided.

“The voters have grown tired of Russ Feingold’s nearly twenty years in Washington and nearly thirty years on the public dole, and they see us as a way to stop the out of control spending in Washington that has brought record deficits and wide-spread joblessness,” said Johnson.  “I am humbled by this initial outpouring of support and in the days ahead, and as Wisconsin voters learn more about my positions, I hope to build on this unprecedented and unexpected early groundswell.”

Johnson added that he is not self-made and everything he’s done personally and professionally has been done with the assistance and support of others, and this campaign will be no different in that respect.

“I am new to politics, but not new to hard work,” Johnson said.  “I am taking this responsibility very seriously. We are working day and night to harness the energy and enthusiasm of everyday Wisconsinites who know that after 18 years of Russ Feingold, Wisconsin deserves better.”

Johnson Announces Senate Bid

Posted June 12, 2010

(Wausau, WI…)  Oshkosh businessman Ron Johnson today announced his candidacy for the US Senate drawing a sharp contrast between his 30 year private sector experience and 18-year incumbent Senator Russell Feingold.

Johnson, joined by his family, said he has enjoyed a full career and that he’s willing to step up the plate to do what has to be done to “bring America back to the ideas and principles that made her great.”

“Voters have grown tired of politicians that have virtually no experience working in the private sector, dealing with the rules, regulations, and taxes that they impose,” Johnson said. “I would like to do what I can to help bring America back. Because the idea and promise of America is losing ground.”

Johnson, 55, owns PACUR, Inc., an Oshkosh-based manufacturing facility that specializes in a variety of plastics manufacturing for medical, commercial and industrial purposes.   PACUR, Inc. employs more than 100 workers in the Fox Valley that manufacture products used throughout the United States and overseas.

Johnson said America’s culture has coarsened, poverty rates have not declined, and a culture that once celebrated and encouraged hard work and success is slowly but surely being replaced by a culture of entitlement and dependency.

“We’ve known this for awhile.  It is why America voted for an empty slate of hope and change back in November of 2008.  Americans didn’t get what they had hoped for,” Johnson said.  “Instead, our jaws have dropped as we watch the politicians spend, not hundreds of billions, but trillions of dollars that we don’t have, and enact legislation, contrary to the wishes of the American public, that will destroy the finest health care system in the world.”

Johnson said President Obama and Senator Feingold just spent $1 trillion dollars – over $3,000 per citizen – hoping to create jobs, but it didn’t work.

“The money is gone, and now we are left holding their debt. Their only solution to every problem is simply more government. My solution would be greater freedom,” Johnson said. “I am an accountant and business owner.  We have enough politicians in Washington.  It’s about time we send someone who can count.”

Johnson resides in Oshkosh with his wife of 32 years, Jane.  Together, they have three adult children, Carey, Jenna and Ben.
